Walking with a Purpose

On a warm fall day at Jubilee Park, members of Rehoboth’s Self-Advocacy Committee came together with one shared goal: to walk with purpose, courage, and heart. This year, they weren’t just joining the Terry Fox Run—they were walking in honor, in memory, and in unity.

From the very first step, the spirit of determination filled the air. Jack and Sean set an ambitious goal for themselves: to complete the full 10-kilometre route—seven and a half laps around the park. The heat was relentless, but so were they. With steady encouragement, shared laughter, and moments of rest along the way, they proved that perseverance isn’t about speed—it’s about heart. Step by step, they crossed the finish line together, a quiet yet powerful example of teamwork and resilience.

Cherry brought her own incredible light to the day. Living with fibromyalgia and cerebral palsy means facing physical pain daily, but you wouldn’t know it by her radiant smile. Determined and joyful, Cherry walked 5 km—her laughter lifting spirits and reminding everyone that strength can look like joy, courage, and compassion all at once.

Denon also showed what it means to lead with heart. Despite battling vertigo, he arrived that day, determined to support his team. Though he couldn’t walk the entire route, his presence, effort, and fundraising before the event spoke volumes. His dedication reminded everyone that contribution comes in many forms—and every act of support matters.

This year’s run held special meaning. Jack and Sean dedicated their walk to the memory of a Rehoboth staff member’s husband who had recently passed away from cancer. Their steps were not only for Terry Fox’s legacy but also for the loved ones and communities touched by loss and hope.

By the end of the day, the group had done far more than complete a walk—they had embodied what self-advocacy truly means: standing up, showing up, and supporting one another through life’s challenges. Each member brought something different to the path—strength, joy, perseverance, and heart—and together, they created something beautiful: a living tribute to courage, community, and the power of walking together.
